My Four Bits A blog for my four bits worth of thoughts

Category Archives: Uncategorized

Love this song. Not sure why, but this reminded me of the last time Lura and I sat on the side of the bed. She kissed me quickly, three times. Smiling the whole time. Then laid down for the last time. We held hands for most of the last time together. We were hardly ever physically apart and never apart in thoughts.

I wonder what will be the first thing she says. Don’t think it will be “Where’ve you been?” . I hope it’s something on the line of “You did well while I was gone.”. I know I can’t do everything as well as she did but, I’ll keep trying and with practice maybe I’ll be able to help some of us left here without her.

So, anyhow, time for some Eagles and time to get on with the daily chore of “GrandPa”! And, then there is this. “Keep me in your heart for a while”.

Hearing Aids

I got my first hearing aid a few weeks ago, and things are much better. Hard to get used to something tickling my ear but, the trade off is Great! Still getting used to all the new sounds I’m hearing. Tell you what! The sound of rain on this Motor Home is totally different! I thought someone was throwing pebbles on it! Much sharper and more distinct. Oh and I found myself hanging from the ceiling when Mellissa knocked last night! She has always knocked loudly but, that was quite the surprise.

The best thing is that I can hear little children much better. I love listening to what they have to say about the world around them. “Hey, look! Grandpa!” and other versions seems to be said a lot when I go bye them. One even said “Santa!” LOL. I smile and wave with a wink! Gotta love kids. Usually smiling and always watching and observing.

Yesterday I went to the Audiologist for a checkup on how the hearing aid was doing! While in the waiting room there was a young boy that made very LOUD sounds! But, he looked at me and waved! That was actually pretty cool. Then the FIRE ALARM went off!!! HOLY CRAPPPP!!!! That was LOUD!!!

Anyhow, the audiologist asked how I was doing? Told her I only had one complaint. Well, now two. Turn that dern alarm down!!! She said she couldn’t do anything about that. What was the other? I said that some of my fav music causes feedback!! So, “Ok, I can put another program in to solve that.”, she did a little typing and now I have a channel for just listening to MUSIC!!! AWESOME!!! What an amazing technology.

Now, I’m istening to Alison Krause’ ‘LONG JOURNEY’ with no feedback on the fiddle or the banjo!!! Sweet. Life is good. 😉

A small note about my best half.

Lura Ruth Nichols.

I know we humans will talk up a person quite a bit after they are gone. And, we “don’t speak ill of the dead”. However, in retrospect, I am sure I have only spoken the truth about her. Simply put, she was a very beautiful and loving human being and she is the love of my life. Now, I am sure I haven’t told everything about her and maybe not mentioned anything negative. BUT, HEY!! I believe that what I have said and will ever say about her is truthful to the best of my memory. Truthfully, I am really hard pressed to find any fault in her.

She was born into the family of Bob and Ruth Slaughter. And, I didn’t get to meet her or her family until around 16 or 17 years later. But, when I did meet them, I was immediately grafted into the group. It always felt like home. Then I spotted Lura!!! There was no great revelation or anything but, I was not surprised at all when I decided to ask her to marry me. It just felt so normal to walk with her and hold hands. That’s when it dawned on me I had to face her Father and ask for his permission. Simple, right? REALITY CHECK!!!

Bob Slaughter was a big guy. No, he was a HUGE MAN! He was a carpenter, hunter and a great father. I am sure he would do most anything to protect his family and here I was a 150 pound pip-squeak that had to face a 1000 lb DAD and look up about ten feet to look him in the eyes. SERIOUSLY!!! At least that’s how big he could grow when he wanted to intimidate anyone and boy he was in prime form that day. Why was I here? Oh, yea. Then I also remembered being told that he had lots of weapons and a very special shotgun. In fact, I think he was cleaning that cannon on the day I “faced” him. I don’t even know how I sold the idea but, he said yes and then the speech.

Long story short. He and Ruth both gave us their permission and we were soon married. Life was fantastic from that point on. While I made a lot of mistakes and got into a lot of trouble along the way, I never considered that decision a mistake for one second. Well, maybe for a fraction of a second when then cannon pointed my way. But, I knew we were supposed to be together forever.

A little over a year later we started our family with a boy. And, boy was he trouble. Lura had no experience with newborns (well at least not enough for this one) and she was terrified! But, she stepped up to the challenge and conquered it. She became the best mother a kid could ever expect. She was extremely protective and was always presenting me with extremely well arguments as to why she wanted things done. Her children were number one then came us.

One of the more interesting examples of her motherly protective position came when we went for a ride on the Ferry. We loved just riding those boats together back and forth on Puget Sound. But, this time was different. We had TODDLERS!! And, while we were told a lot that they were very well behaved and stayed with us whenever we were out and about, she would not take them out on the deck without life-jackets! WHAT? Are you serious? (I, very quickly, learned to never say THAT to her) . She layed it out in no uncertain terms. Heck, I even understood her. “What if the boat was rocked and the boys fell over?” She never had to use a lot of words. So, that was the end of any thought of a response other than “We need to check the fits” And, finally, there we were at the rail of the Edmonds Ferry; holding the hands of her most precious possessions that were well adorned with the best fitting life-jackets we could find. And, me feeling very proud of my decision to face her Enormous Dad and loving my life partner as usual.

There is so much more that can be said about her but, “Short note” keeps coming to mind. Suffice it to say that I am still alive and we are still one person even if she got called home earlier than I. She gave me seven very intelligent and loving children and those have brought more into our lives that we count as our family. They have given us 8 beautiful grand-children.

Lura’s family will always get bigger and, I know that she loves them all.

Thanks for reading this. It is just a very small peak into her life through very tearful eyes. I never liked being away from her but, I HATE THIS! And, to Lura, “Love you Babe! Always and forever!”

Blessings and SHALOM to you all,

Paul Nichols Sr. ( the other half of the whole known as ‘Lura and Paul’)

PS. This took a lot of time to right with way too many tearful breaks. But, I hope to write some more. “Never give up! Never surrender!”

A gentleman worth his weight!

I have recently come across a gentleman and brother in the faith, by the name of Alan Horvath. His main website is and below you will find a few of his links that I copied from his YouTube site.

He is an accomplished musician and a very good researcher/student of Yahuweh! There are a lot of songs and studies that you can listen to and or watch. On his weekly YouTube video “Alan’s Real News”, he reports on current events from a believers point of view and what the “LameStream Media isn’t telling us”.

We especially love this YouTube song called “Children of Elohim (The Netchatef Song)”
It is Rory’s favorite! She might be having a very bad day but, when this song comes on you can feel her tension leave her. And, she is usually riveted to the video.

This man is a worthy disciple of Yahuweh. Please enjoy and give the worker his due.

Global Warming scare?

The question is not whether the climate is changing or not because the answer is of course and emphatically YES! (duh). The climate is always changing not only with the annual seasons but on a longer time period, the global temperature has been higher and it has been lower than the current age. But, the politicians want us to panic and give them more money to keep it from changing. How arrogant, ludicrous and assuming can they get? Oh wait, they’re politicians. 😉

As Stossel says in the video, We should be asking these questions.
Is it man-made?
Is it a crisis?
Can man do anything about it?

The “Hockey Stick” graph seems to come from The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Not surprising it “is the leading international body for the assessment of climate change.”

Scary stuff until you check out who sponsors them and how they have massaged the data to come up with what they have. Also, take a look at the reconstructed data from about 2000 bc to now. Shows a different story. Those people back them must have been burning up everything they could find and breathing a LOT!

Also, their “hockey stick” graph is in tenths of degrees! That could easily have been altered to make the case. This whole climate scare is a ridiculous clown act. And, Al Gore is one of the Chief Clowns. Guess he thought that is second best to Commander-in-Chief.

Halloween – “All Hallows’ Eve”

Ok, this may be classified as a ‘rant’ by some. But, so be it.

Halloween is an insidious and destructive pagan inspired day set aside by man’s ‘church’!!! Don’t partake! EVIL begets EVIL!!

This is the first ‘holy’ day of the upcoming season of the church’s deliberate attempt to destroy the authority of Yeshua and to negate and replace Yahweh’s HOLY Days with ones designed to put the church leaders in a position of authority.

The history of this is well documented in Wikipedia (simple search). So, I won’t get into that much. The underlying practice of the church to get rid of Yahweh’s commandments, teachings and Holy Feast days is the ultimate concern! If one wishes to be recognized by the Father in the afterlife, then this would be the first thing to change. I would HATE to hear  ‘I say to you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of unrighteousness.’ (Luke 13:27) when I am knocking on the door to heaven. :(

Are you going to be a worker of Righteousness or unrighteousness!!!  Start today! LIFE is SHORT and our days are numbered!

Blessings to you all in your search for the TRUTH!

Fly-Fishing the Stillwater!

Yesterday Mike and I went fly-fishing on the Stillwater river! And, before you ask, NO didn’t catch anything. :) But, I had a BLAST and I think Mike did too. Just two guys on the river enjoying the water and solitude. And learning how to fly-fish.
Just to clarify, fishing is FISHING! Not necessarily catching! Sure, it would have been nice to catch some but, the best part of any fishing is getting on the water and relaxing. That we did. We also had some good conversational time.

This was my first serious day of fly-fishing. I got a new reel on my birthday and have been itching to check it out. It worked great. Thanks, kids. 😉 I haven’t been fishing for a while and fly-fishing has always seemed a bit much for me. Wow! Was I surprised!

Fly-fishing is well…. different but, when you get settled and relaxed, it is very enjoyable and fun. If you are used to another form of fishing, the hardest part is remembering that you don’t cast as hard as you would with a spinner or bait casting rig. Then you have to throw a little bit of timing in as well. This all means that your arm has to do a lot of unlearning along with some learning.

Unlearning something is very difficult at best and with a lot of things can almost be insurmountable (religiosity comes to mind) but, unlearning arm movements is doable. I did have to talk to my arm a lot. it kept wanting to go back to casting hard and long sometimes right in the middle of a forward cast! Not pretty and sometimes hazardous. Lots of times it would go back way too far on the back cast, too. That seems to result in catching a lot of shrubs and rocks.

Mike may have had a little more difficulty because of his fencing skills. I didn’t see him do any lunging or thrusting of the rod but, his forward cast seemed to be too low. I wondered if this might be do to him trying to get the sword on target! After chatting about it while snacking on the beach, his casts looked a lot better and he was presenting the fly nicely! The loops in the air were beautiful!

In hind site, I guess I did do some catching after all! 1 Head, 1 cap, 4 or 5 shrubs, misc rocks. And, actually, I did hook one fish!!! Scared the heck out of me. LOL He did flip off the hook before I landed him but, that was exciting! My heart rate even jumped up irrespective of my heart medicine! Loved it.

Bill Cosby Yelled at ME!! :)

The kids bought us tickets to go see Bill Cosby yesterday at the Alberta Bair Theater in Billings Mt! It was FANTASTIC!!! And, then some.
I really was excited to just go see the man on stage, live. However, we were quite amazed! He still has it. He is one of the best entertainers around. I especially love the way he involves the audience. Oh, a tip for the husbands out there, if you go and are close to the front, be prepared to know how many years you have been married. One guy made the mistake of answering a couple of years more than his wife knows to be true. Oh My! Mr Cosby went on with that for a good 10 minutes. It was hilarious!

Oh, yea. Back to the title. During his bit on mother’s day, Bill asked how many mothers had three kids. There were lots of clapping. Then he got to 6 and there was only a couple. That’s where he stopped! Well, my wife has 7 so…

I yelled out “SEVEN!!”. He looks up (we were in the Loge) and yells back “THIS IS NOT AN AUCTION!” ….

My Claim to FAME: I was yelled at by Bill Cosby!

Well, it’s been a loong time.

Howdy all,

It’s been a long time between posts. We have been busy here with important things. Spiritual, Medical, health, — LIFE —- issues have been really forefront more so than usual.

I keep recovering from my heart issues and my mind is working more and more. Good thing mostly but, at times I am reminded of how much I missed and neglected while I was incapacitated. So, I have been playing a game of catch-up in a lot of things. Fortunately, humor has returned as well. Although some would say that’s troublesome, I find it very necessary when I am reminded of somethings that I wasn’t aware of before. Not to mention just bringing smiles to peoples faces.

I have also spent a lot of time using the Social Media to catch up. That media is DANGEROUS, PEOPLE!!! More on that later. But, suffice it to say here, that it can consume a lot of ones time.

I think I will be using this format more and linking the posts here to my FB account. Mainly because I can get my thoughts out easier and faster than on FB with all of the ads and minutia that floats around there mainly to advertise something.

Well, thanks for reading this. And, please post comments!!!

Your Friend,

End of the world

Seems that rumor has it the END OF THE WORLD is coming this week! LOL Well, it may be correct but, I don’t think that the Mayans have prophesied it. I have been looking at the Mayan Calendar and from what I have seen it doesn’t foretell the end of the world so much as it is just the end of the calendar cycle.

The good news is that their calendar appears to be circular! Check me if I’m wrong, but, it looks like the circle doesn’t end. The whole thing just goes round and round and round and round. Image that.

Now, a new era and cycle may mean something. According to the Mayan rumors, things will change. Hmmm… now that sounds prophetic. Guess we’ll know it the next 5 thousand (give or talk a few) years if the change meant something.

So, End of the world? Someones wishful thinking, I think.

See you all on the 22nd!
